La plata no se oxida, porque no reacciona al oxígeno, pero cuando el sulfuro de plata de la pieza se pone en contacto con el aire, reacciona con el azufre que hay en la atmósfera, y es por lo que, en un contacto prolongado, se oscurece o amarillea.
Por eso, lo mejor es siempre guardarlas en sus cajitas o en un sitio hermético, si queremos mantenerlas con su original brillo.
Si hay más joyas, mejor separarlas de manera individual (en bolsitas de plástico o algo que aisle). Así evitaremos que se rayen.
Otros factores que oscurecen son los productos que usamos: cremas, maquillajes, perfumes, el sudor… El PH de la piel (el índice de acidez) puede tener determinadas peculiaridades que generan oscurecimiento.
De vez en cuando, las podemos lavar con un jabón neutro, con la ayuda de un cepillito de dientes, después las ponemos sobre papel absorbente para sacar la humedad.
